China-Myanmar Training Workshop on Pesticide Residue Risk Control Technology Successfully Held in Beijing
From June 27th to July 3rd, the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPPCAAS), in collaboration with Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) from Myanmar, successfully organized the training workshop on pesticide residue risk control technologies in Beijing. This workshop was arranged under the framework of the “Lancang-Mekong Cooperation” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. Facilitated by Prof. Dong Fengshou, Director of the Pesticide Innovation Center of IPPCAAS, and Prof. Moe Hnin Phyu, project manager from Yezin Agricultural University, this workshop attracted more than 30 participants from both China and Myanmar to participate. Zhang Jie, Deputy Director General of IPPCAAS and Tian Fang, Deputy Director of the Department of Research and International Cooperation attended the workshop, with Tian Fang presiding over the opening and closing ceremonies.
The training workshop focused on topics related to the formation mechanisms, risk effects, and control measures of pesticide residues. Through lectures, on-site practices, and visits to typical pesticide laboratories, the workshop conducted systematic and comprehensive training and exchanges. Experts from both China and Myanmar, including Profs. Dong Fengshou, Liu Xingang, Li Yuanbo, Wu Xiaohu, Phyu Phyu San, Moe Hnin Phyu, Assoc. Profs. Zaw Linn Myo Htun, Drs. Li Runan, Wu Chi, Shen Chao, and Zhang Binbin, delivered thematic presentations, providing detailed insights into the experiences and achievements of each country in pesticide residue control and discussed cooperation opportunities as well as challenges between China and Myanmar in this field. During the on-site practical session, Dr. Wang Kuan introduced and demonstrated various technical operations like sample pre-treatment, instrument usage and rapid pesticide detection. Through seven days of training and exchange, the Myanmar delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of China’s capabilities in pesticide residue testing and risk control, further instilling great confidence in bilateral cooperation in pesticide risk control.
Zhang Jie, Deputy Director General of IPPCAAS, summarized the workshop by emphasizing that this academic exchange provided an important platform for the collaboration between China and Myanmar in the field of pesticide residue control technologies. It strengthened mutual communication and cooperation between IPPCAAS and YAU on pesticide residue risk control, so as to jointly tackled issues related to pesticide residue and food safety in the Lancang-Mekong region, collaborate on effective control measures, ensure the quality and safety of agricultural products as well as promote sustainable agricultural development.
