The National Postdoctoral Management Committee Office, China Postdoctor Fund and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) jointly held the Sub-Forum for Plant Protectionunderthe Academic Forum on Sci-Tech Innovation in Agriculture and the Sustainable Development at the Institute of Plant Protection (IPP), CAAS, on 24 October, 2015. IPP-CAAS co-organized the Sub-Forum. The theme of the Sub-Forum is Science and Technology Innovation in Agriculture and Green Plant Protection. Deputy Director General Zheng Yongquan of IPP hosted the forum and addressed it. Prof. Li Zhihong of China Agricultural University (CAU), Prof. Wang Xianhui from the Institute of Zoology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOZ-CAS), Profs. Wang Guirong and Zhou Huanbin and post-doctor Xiao Yutao of IPP were invited to give special reports at the Sub-Forum.

Zheng, on the behalf of the IPP leading group, pointed out in his speech that postdoctors were the important component of talent young scientists in China. IPP paid high attention to the postdoctor cultivationduring the implementation of strategy for innovation engineering of CAAS. The scale of postdoctors had been enlarged and the quality improved. The aim of the work was to establish teams of personnel who are rich in creative thinking and exploring spirit. He hoped that postdoctors were eager to learn, apt at thinking, bold in exploring and sensitive to innovation. Postdoctors should become leading young scientists with broad mind and wide visionand were all-round developed with united knowledge and practice in agricultural science and technology and contributed to the development of plant protection.

Li Zhihong delivered a report on the profound and detailed analyses on the invasion, the establishment and the adaptive evolution of fruit fly and the status quo of the quarantine and the control in China and other countries. Wang Guirong aimed at the international frontier research of chemical ecology and reported his group's work on the new strategies for the high throughput screening of insect behavior regulator. He encouraged the postdoctors to have clear aim, think more, be bold in exploring and have team spirit. Such, the postdoctors could lay solid foundation for themselves in science research. Starting from the national demand on the Major Leading Technology Breakthrough in Frontier Basic Researches, Wang Xianhui delivered a wonderful talk on the Behavior Genetic Research and the Control of Agricultural Insect Pests in Future stood on traditional insect behavior ecology and combined with the Hadoop and data mining after high throughput sequencing. Zhou Huanbin did a report on the Use of CRISPR/Cas9 Technique in Functional Genetics of Plants and Creation of Novel Germplasm to introduce CRISPR/Cas9, the genome-editing technique. CRISPR/Cas9 is one of the hottest areasin current molecular biology research. Xiao Yutao gave a talk on the Molecular Mechanisms of the Interaction between Insect and Plant from the resistance of plant against insect pests and the resistance of insect pests to plants. The spoken experts targeted the forefront trends in respective areas and displayed the most recent results of their own researches. These talks triggered the keen interests and lively discussion.

The success of this Sub-Forum not only provided a good opportunity for the postdotors to understand the trend of academic development and exchange views with experts but also established a platform for the postdoctors in IPP to exchange their research results and novel thinking. This Sub-Forum is also a good gift to the 30th anniversary of degree system in China. Dr. GuoJianying, the Director of the Department of Human Resources, and Dr. Liu Mingna,an officer of the Department, were presented at the Sub-Forum. More than 50 postdoctors and postgraduates from CAAS, CAU, IOZ-CAS, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, etc., attended the Sub-Forum.
