Dr. Manjeet Sethi, the Director of Pest Management Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (PMC-AAFC) visited IPP on 27 October. Dr. Jennifer Ballantine, the Director of the Department of Plant Pathology, PMC-AAFC, and Dr. Liu Shuhua, the Director of the Department of Weed Sciences, PMC-AAFC, accompanied him. The visitors and the scientists in IPP exchanged views on collaboration in the areas of plant protection. Wen Xue, the Deputy Director General of IPP received the foreign guests. Dr. Wang Lixia, the Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Graduate Student, hosted the meeting.

Deputy Director General Wen expressed the warm welcome to Dr. Sethi and his colleagues, recalled the collaboration and exchange between IPP and AAFC and hoped to strengthen the mutual collaboration in application for research projects, personnel exchange and graduate education in plant protection areas. Dr. Wang introduced the basic information on the scientific research conducted at IPP, talent education and international exchange and collaboration. Thereafter, Dr. Sethi introduced the basic information of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canada-China collaborations in agricultural research areas and the priority collaborationareas in agricultural science and technology. Dr. Sethi hoped to enhance deeper collaboration with IPP in the areas of plant protection, to apply for collaboration projects, and tojointly publishscientific articles. Dr. Sethi expressed his hope to strengthen the inter-visiting and exchange between Canadian and Chinese scientists and to joint-supervise graduate students. After the meeting, Dr. Sethi and his colleagues visited the State Key Laboratory for Biology of Plant Diseases and Insect Pests,MOA-CABI Joint Laboratory for Bio-safetyandlaboratories for nematodes, weeds, predatory mites,and pesticide residue and analysis.

Dr. Sethi's visit deepened the understanding to scientific research work conducted at IPP and laid a foundation for the mutual exchange and collaboration. The attended participants included Drs. Zhang Chaoxian, Wan Fanghao, Peng Deliang, Xu Xuenong, He Chenyang and Dong Fengshou from IPP, Dr. Zhang Feng, CABI East Asia, and Mr. Chen Yiqin from the Department of International Exchange and Service, Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, China MOA.
