IPPCAAS Hosted Workshop and Signing Ceremony of LOI for the Pakistan-China Joint Laboratory for Crop Pest Management
On July 27th, the Pakistan-China Joint Laboratory for Crop Pest Management successfully held a workshop and signing ceremony of Letter of Intent at the Institute of Plant Protection (IPPCAAS) in Beijing. Qian Yu, Deputy Director General and Zhang Shuai, Deputy Director of the Division of Bilateral Cooperation of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, Wang Yanqing, Director of Government Affairs for Syngenta Group China, Iqrar Ahmad Khan (online), Vice President of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Lu Yanhui, Director General of IPPCAAS, Liu Wende, Assistant to the DG IPPCAAS, among others attended the workshop. The workshop was chaired by Tian Fang, Deputy Director of the Division of Science and Technology Management and International Cooperation of IPPCAAS.
Qian Yu stated that the establishment of the joint laboratory between IPPCAAS and the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in Pakistan will strongly promote cooperation between China and Pakistan in related fields and serve as implementation of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Wang Yanqing indicated that Syngenta Group will leverage its status as a globally pioneering agricultural technology innovation company to provide support for the construction of the joint laboratory. Iqrar Ahmad Khan introduced the background information of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Pakistan's demand for improving crop pest and disease control capabilities and food security production, emphasizing that the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad will provide comprehensive support for the establishment and substantial operation of the joint laboratory. Liu Wende briefly introduced the profile of IPPCAAS and expressed expectation that the establishment of the joint laboratory will promote in-depth cooperation between the two sides in the fields of plant biosafety and food security.
In the presence of leaders and experts from both sides, Lu Yanhui and Iqrar Ahmad Khan jointly signed the cooperation agreement for the establishment of the "Pakistan-China Joint Laboratory for Crop Pest Management", which marks the formal launch of the joint laboratory. Both IPPCAAS and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad will rely on the agreement to advance the physical operation of the joint laboratory as soon as possible, so as to conduct experiments, demonstrations, and joint research on integrated disease control technologies for common crop pests and diseases, as well as technical personnel training and talent exchange. Dr. Guo Jingfei from IPPCAAS and Dr. Abid Ali from the Department of Entomology at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad presented specific work plans for the joint laboratory on behalf of China and Pakistan respectively, with participating experts delivered their detailed engagement and in-depth discussions further on.
