CAAS President Meets Chairman of ASEAN FAW Taskforce
On August 2nd, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with Mr. Nguyen Quy Dang, Chairman of the ASEAN FAW Taskforce, to discuss enhancing cooperation in controlling transboundary crop pests like the fall armyworm (FAW).
Prof. Wu Kongming expressed CAAS's willingness to deepen cooperation with ASEAN member states in cross-border pest control. He suggested establishing a collaboration mechanism, jointly securing projects, strengthening capacity building, and enhancing multilateral cooperation to achieve coordinated prevention and control of transboundary pests, ensuring regional food and ecological security.
Mr. Nguyen Quy Dang highly praised CAAS's achievements in FAW control and expressed his commitment to strengthening communication and coordination among ASEAN member states, learning from China's technical experience, and promoting collaborative FAW control.
FAW poses a significant threat to ASEAN and China's food production. Under the Chinese government's strong support, CAAS has achieved breakthroughs in monitoring, early warning, and green control techniques for FAW. These technologies were widely applied domestically and shared with ASEAN countries, contributing significantly to the effective control of FAW in the region.
During the meeting, a joint statement on strengthening cooperation in transboundary crop pest control was signed. Before coming to Beijing, Mr. Nguyen Quy Dang's delegation also visited the Yunnan Jiangcheng Experimental Station of the Institute of Plant Protection of CAAS for better understanding CAAS’s research and application of FAW monitoring and control technologies.
