Prof. Li Xiangju was elected Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Weed Society
On September 3-6, 2019, the 27th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society Conference was held in Kuching, Malaysia. Four scientists from the Weed Research Group at IPP-CAAS, Drs. Li Xiangju, Wei Shouhui, Cui Hailan, and Huang Zhaofeng, were invited to attend the meeting and gave academic presentations. Prof. Li Xiangju was elected Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Weed Society.
The conference was jointly organized by the Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society (APWSS) and Malaysia Plant Protection Society (MAPPS), with the theme of "Weed Science for Sustainable Agriculture and the Environment". It covers the Weed biolo-gy and ecology, herbicide resistance and herbicide tolerance crops, biological con-trol, allelopathy, mechanisms of herbicide action and herbicide application technol-ogy, environmental behavior, weed management, risk evaluation, and resource utili-zation, etc. About 300 participants from 25 countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, India and Malaysia attended the conference.
Dr. Wei Shouhui and Dr. Huang Zhaofeng delivered oral presentations titled “Genetic regulation of seed dormancy and germination in Solanum rostratum” and “Molecular basis of resistance to ALS-inhibiting herbicides in Amaranthus retroflex-us L. from China”, respectively. Dr. Cui Hailan presented a poster titled “The re-sistance of Cyperus difformis to acetohydroxyacid synthase inhibitors in China pad-dy field”. All of them took this opportunity to present their study progress and achievements on weed biology and herbicide resistance, and communicate with peer experts in the conference, which received extensive attention.
Prof. Li Xiangju was elected Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Weed Society at the conference. In addition, on behalf of Weed Science Society of China, she gave the report of “New technologies leading the way of weed science!” to bid for holding the 29th Asian-Pacific Weed Science Society Conference. China won the bid with abso-lute advantage in four candidate countries.
It was really a good chance for international academic communication, building friendship, and sharing new ideas by attending the conference. Moreover, it is of great significance to enhance the status of IPP-CAAS on weed study, promote the multilateral collaboration on weed research and comprehensive weed management innovation.
