Plant Protection Auditoriums 10-12 were respectively organized at IPP recently. The invited speakers were, respectively, Academician WU Kongming, the vice president of CAAS, Dr. ZHU Jiankang, member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and director of Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (CPSB), Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Dr. Yong-Hwan LEE, member of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Dr. WU Kongming talked on Monitoring and Forecasting of Major Agricultural Insect Pests and the Control Technology. Dr. ZHU Jiankang talked on Progress in Gene Editing Technologies for Plant Functional Genomics Research and Precision Molecular Breeding. Dr. Yong-Hwan LEE talked on New Paradigm on Rice Blast Research: Genomics and Beyond.
Dr. WU Kongming gave, first, an account of population monitoring of insect pests in Bt cotton and the control with the focuses on research progress in target and non-target insect pests after planting Bt cotton, the population succession of natural enemy insects and the resistance evolution of target insect pests. Then, Dr. WU introduced the establishment and development of Changdao Experimental Station from the aspects of the main discipline questions, research platform construction, monitoring of insect migration and recent work plan and the research progress obtained at Changdao Station in the cross sea migration of agricultural insect pests.
Dr. ZHU Jiankang first recalled briefly his feeling while he observed the experiments of plant physiology as a student in Beijing 30 years ago. Then, he introduced his research areas and the orientation of CPSB he led. He started from the history of gene editing technology and highlighted the results his team obtained in establishing and optimizing TALEN and CRISPRT-CAS9 technical systems. Dr. ZHU, afterwards, presented the successful application of gene editing techniques to create new germplasm of rice and tomato his team achieved.
Dr. Yong-Hwan LEE presented the research progress he and his team obtained in past 20 years focusing on development of rice blast pathogen and the identification of pathogenic genes and signaling transduction network, comparative genome of plant pathogenic fungi and platform establishment of bioinformatic analysis, and rice microbiome. Besides, he introduced the pandemics of wheat blast, which originated in South America and had spread to Asia, in Bangladesh and India in recent years.
DG ZHOU Xueping issued the certificates of the Auditorium to the three outstanding scientists and had photos taken with them, respectively.
Chief scientists of innovation research teams, core scientists in the teams and graduates attended these auditoriums.
