International and SELAMAT Conference on Pesticide Residue and Mycotoxin Contamination Held in Beijing
From September 6th to 9th, the International and SELAMAT Conference on Pesticide Residue and Mycotoxin Contamination, co-organized by the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPPCAAS), SELAMAT (Eurasia Sustainable Food Safety International Cooperation Network), and the Pesticide Residue and Environmental Safety Committee of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection, was successfully held in Beijing. Distinguished attendees included Prof. Liu Wende, Deputy Director General of IPPCAAS and Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection, Dr. Jian Qiu, Senior Agronomist at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Dr. Dong Fengshou, Director of the Pesticide Innovation Center at IPPCAAS and Chair of SELAMAT, and Professor Han Marvin from the Wageningen Food Safety Research Institute in the Netherlands. Dr. Tian Fang, Deputy Director of the Division of Research and International Cooperation, chaired the meeting.
The conference, which featured in-depth discussions on critical topics such as pesticide residues, food safety, environmental impacts, biotoxin contamination control, and the integration of predictive models and machine learning in pollution management, brought together keynote speakers including distinguished academics like Professor Jay Gan from the University of California, Riverside, and Professor Qingxiao Li from the University of Hawaii. Additionally, the event hosted strategic meetings of the SELAMAT member council and the Pesticide Residue and Environmental Safety Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection, focusing on strengthening collaboration through academic exchanges, technical training, and project partnerships.
With 239 representatives from 11 countries and international organizations attending, the conference served as a comprehensive academic platform to advance the application of pesticide science and risk control strategies, ultimately aiming to promote sustainable agricultural development by minimizing pesticide residues and toxicity, thereby contributing to the safety of global food production and the quality of agricultural products.
