Xinxiang Field Experimental Station for Pest Monitoringand Control, CAAS
Xinxiang Field Experimental Station for Pest Monitoringand Control, CAAS, was approved for the establishment by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) in 2009. The predecessor of the Station was Xinxiang Scientific Research Base, Institute of Plant Protection (IPP), CAAS, which was founded in 1953.
The Field Experimental Station locates at Qiliying Town, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, with the acreage of about 90 ha. The facilities for research include laboratories, dormitories for students and staff and supporting facilities.
The main research areas include 1) the observation to the occurrence of cotton insect pests and their control; 2) observation and identification of field resistance of cotton germplasm and breeding for cotton resistance against insect pests and diseases; 3) field observation and breeding for quality high yielding germplasmof wheat, maize and soybeans; 4) establishment of crop management systems based on integrated crop protection and cultivation techniques and 5) extension and demonstration of machineries and techniques for pesticide application.
The Station has developed into a comprehensive field experimental station with capability for main researches on observation and control of cotton insect pests and diseases while takinginto account of sustainable management of food crop diseases and insect pests. The Station has original information and data for cotton diseases and insect pests for more than 50 years and accumulated abundant research experience. A combined high pressure dynamic disease nursery for cotton Fusarium and Verticillium wilts provides good breeding base for cotton cultivar ´ZhongZhiMian 2´ and other 13 new cotton cultivars that have been approved by either state or provincial seed examinations and released.More than 100 research programs at state, ministry and province levels have been complemented or are under complementing here, in which the most important programs include National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program), National Key Technologies R&D Program, Science and Technology Support Program), Special Fund for Agro-Scientific Research in the Public Interest, key science and technology programs launched by China Ministry of Agriculture, programs from National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects from provincial governments and ministries and international cooperation projects, etc.
