中文名：赵廷昌Dr. Tingchang Zhao is a professor of Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has been serving as a plant pathologist for decades. He is the chief scientist of bacterial fruit blotch research in China.
Recent years, he has conducted the studies on comprehensive control of bacterial fruit blotch of melon and watermelon supported by Special Fund for Agro-scientific Research in the Public Interest. His laboratory team generated the full knockout mutants of Acidovorax citrulli, the casual agent of bacterial fruit blotch, for the first time around the world, and meanwhile explored the quorum-sensing system in this pathogen and identified its signaling molecules. His team is investigating the functions of genes involved in type III and VI secretion systems, copper resistance, chemotaxis, antibiotics resistance of A. citrulli, and also trying to find out the molecular mechanisms of the phenotypic differences between subgroup I and II of A. citrulli via genomic approach.
In addition, his research interests are not limited to bacterial fruit blotch, but also focus on othervegetable diseases such as angular leaf spot of cucumber, bacterial wilt of tobacco, bacterial spot of tomato and pepper, fire blight of tobacco, etc. His adequate expertise in identification and isolation of plant diseases and their pathogens has helped thousands of farmers who suffered from bacterial plant diseases, and his detection and seed-disinfection techniques have saved numerous yield loss.
