A workshop on the progress of a China-Belgium collaboration project Cooperation of the green control strategy on wheat insect and disease based on the application of infochemical releaser and plant-immunity protein activator held at IPP
IPP organizeda workshop on the progress obtained while complementing a China-Belgium collaboration project Cooperation of the green control strategy on wheat insect and disease based on the application of infochemical releaser and plant-immunity protein activator on 20 October. Deputy Director General Qiu Dewen was present at the workshop and made a speech. Dr. Chen Julian hosted the workshop.
Dr. Qiu emphasized that the China-Belgium project played important role in international collaboration of IPP. The collaboration project not only raised the research level of the both parties but also pushed the collaboration work in IPP through exchange visits and graduate education. Dr. Qiu fully affirmed the outcomes of the project in control of wheat diseases and insect pests. He argued that this project met with the technical demand of the country in reduction of pesticide and chemical fertilizer uses. The integration of immune and ecological management is the important theoretical base and technique support in establishing the technique system of wheat diseases and insect pests control. The results of the research could promote the wheat quality and yield. Dr. Chen introduced the push-pull effects of volatile substances, such as methyl salicylate and aphid alarm pheromone E-β-Farnesene, to aphids and their natural enemies, introduced joint application of the immune inducer ATaiLing in control of wheat aphids and discussed the mechanisms of the immune activator. Prof. Liu Yong from Shandong Agricultural University reported their researches on the tardily releasing techniques based push-pull strategy and the application techniques of the products.Dr. Yang Xiufen from IPP introduced the control effect of immune protein on plant virus diseases and the molecular mechanisms. The participants discussed the difficulties and issues faced in work openly and suggested the standards to evaluate the effect of biological control. The participants drew up a work plan for 2016.
It is known that the China-Belgium collaboration project aims at the issuesin wheat production, such as lacking good pesticides to control virus diseases, difficulties in control of aphids and ecological pollution caused by over-use of chemicals. The project, based on the theories of plant immune and ecology management, focuses on immune protein, botanic pesticides and tardily release of volatile substances and the coordinated control effects on wheat viruses and aphids. The project aims at forming a new technique system to effectively control wheat diseases and insect pests. Dr Fan Jia and Ms. Sun Jingrui and graduates in the related research teams attended this workshop.
