Dissemination of knowledge on genetic modified organisms (GMOs) is an important and urgent issue. In order to answer the call from the Government, disseminate the knowledge on transgenic technology in agriculture and the management of safety, improve cognitive level of the public, and build a good public opinion environment towards the industrialization of transgenic technology, the Professional Committee of Biological Safety under China Society of Plant Protection, China Agricultural Science, Center of Science and Technology Development of Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), together with Xinyang Normal College held a training session for dissemination of GMO knowledge on 13-15 October, 2016. Correct knowledge of transgenosis among teachers in universities and colleges and normal college students has significant influence on Chinese teenagers in improving their knowledge level of transgenic technology. Hence, it is meaningful to hold such a session in a normal college.

The training session invited Investigator HE Yibing from the Division of GMO Biosafety and Intellectual Property, Department of Science, Technology and Education of MOA, Prof. HUANG Dafang, the formal director general of Biotechnology Research Institute of CAAS, Prof. PENG Yufa from IPP-CAAS, Prof. LIN Yongjun from Huazhong Agricultural University, Prof. YE Gongyin from Zhejiang University, Prof. LAI Jinsheng from China Agricultural University and Mr. CHU Jinxiang, director of Division of Science and Education, Agriculture Department of Henan Province, presented good talks on R&D of transgenic crops in China, safety assessment and management of transgenic organisms, the economic and ecological benefits of transgenic crops, scientific and technological innovation and controversy, etc. The teachers and students who attended this session presented great interests. They, based on their knowledge and doubt, exchanged fully with the experts in the session. Apart from the presentations and posters, reading matter was given out for disseminating knowledge of transgenosis. The attendees showed that they understood GMO technology more objectively and deeply through this session and doubts dismissed.
