Learnt from 2017 working meeting of CAAS held on 9 January, the Institute of Plant Protection ranked the first place once more due to the averaged strength in the annual evaluation of research institutes in CAAS. This is the fifth consecutive year when IPP achieved the success.

It was learnt also that IPP appeared in all the lists of commendation in the working meeting, which include the lists of national awards, top research articles, CAAS awards and eminent workers in year 2014-2015. Amongst them, IPP achieved one of the 7 National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology that CAAS achieved in 2016. It was the Establishment  and Application of High-Efficiency and Low-Risk Technology System of Pesticide, 2nd prize, presided by ZHENG Yongquan. CAAS scientists published 13 top research articles in world’s famous journals while two of them were published by scientists in IPP. One of articles is entitled Resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis mediated by an ABC transporter mutation increases susceptibility to toxins from other bacteria in an invasive insect, written by WU Kongming and his team, was published in PLOS PATHOGENS, and the other Invasion and Management of Agricultural Alien Insects in China, written by WAN Fanghao and YANG Nianwan, was published in ANNUAL REVIEW OF ENTOMOLOGY. 10 achievements were selected for appraisal in CAAS in 2016 while IPP achieved two. These are, respectively, Innovation of ATaiLing, a Protein Inducer of Plant Immunity, and its Application, presided by QIU Dewen, and Key Control Technology of Major Insect Pests in Fruits and Vegetables and the Application, presided by WAN Fanghao. DG ZHOU Xueping was in the list of 10 advanced workers across the Academy in the year 2014-2015.

It is not easy for IPP to keep the success of topping the averaged strength in CAAS. It is due to the accumulated work of several generations of scientists who have worked at IPP and also the result of efforts that the whole staff, esp. the scientists, paid at IPP in 2016.
